Updates on Speedway and 2200 Lyndale Ave. + Community Impact Statements

12/1/2021

The following is an update from Inspector Katie Blackwell regarding community concerns at both the Speedway gas station at 22nd St & Lyndale Ave as well as the illegal nightclub operation at 2200 Lyndale Ave:
  • 30 arrests were made as a result of a Thanksgiving event held at 2200 Lyndale, the site of the illegal nightclub. The tenants were served an eviction notice a couple weeks ago but refused to vacate and have a court hearing on December 1. Inspector Blackwell indicated it's a near lock that the eviction will be held up in court. All 911 calls regarding the property will also be used as evidence at the court hearing.
  • Speedway ownership will be meeting with Inspector Blackwell, the crime prevention specialist, and Mpls Dept. of Inspections in the next week to discuss community concerns and work to come up with solutions to mitigate the issues stemming from that property. LHENA will be collecting community impact statements this week and relay those to the Inspector.
If you would like to submit a community impact statement regarding the Speedway gas station at 22nd and Lyndale, you may do so here by Sunday, December 5th. LHENA will share impact statements with Inspector Blackwell and the Dept. of Inspections.

Submit a community impact statement.

Why attack people who simply party differently?

I live very close to this speedway and I’ve seen it decline sharply over the last two years. I’ve actually stopped using it completed. I was always so uncomfortable every time I filled my tank there. There seemed to always be fights and cars subsequently speeding off. I have a young daughter and avoid this side of the street completely when walking anywhere near there with her. This entire area has seen such an uptick in crime and I’m guessing much of it is in someway related to activities taking place at this gas station. They need to become proactive in cleaning up their act or be closed down

The speedway has an incredibly difficult time keeping employees, I don't think it's reasonable to put all responsibility on them. They have posted no loitering signs, they pay to have security on site almost daily, they have cameras up. It's impossible for the business to police everyone in the parking lot. It's the police's job to police people, that's literally why they exist
And these problems only started when the police stopped having a presence there. Quit blaming the business, which provides many services and the employees that do stay who try really hard, and blame the police who are the ones letting this area go to shit. If you're going to comment Julie try and think about the issue instead of just blabbing inane bullshit.
