It has very recently come to our attention that the apartment building at 2003 Aldrich Avenue South has been sold and the new owner is in the process of securing a demolition permit. The board members of the Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association are keenly aware of the concerns that have circled around this structure since adjacent construction at 2004 Lyndale Avenue South caused significant enough damage to require the evacuation of tenants in October of 2018 (see this article for context).
LHENA submitted a statement yesterday to city officials requesting an immediate halt to the demolition of this structure as we parse out its viability as an ongoing housing resource for our community. The loss of 25 units of naturally occurring affordable housing in a building that is part of our historic fabric stands against Wedge values of inclusivity. We commit to being advocates for the Wedge as this situation develops.
