LHENA News
Press releases, updates, and history from neighbors in and around the Wedge
Wedge residents Kari Johnson and Karlee Weinmann had an idea: to conduct large-scale, non-partisan outreach to inform neighbors of the facts about voting. The two applied for funding from LHENA, which was granted. A yard sign campaign followed, volunteers were recruited, doors were knocked, flyers were distributed, and events were tabled. Kari and Karlee helped register dozens of new voters and delivered registrations to the Secretary of State’s office free of charge. Kari also partnered with Jefferson Community School, our neighborhood’s polling site, for an Election Day bake sale which raised over $3,000 for the school. After the election, polling numbers came in for each City neighborhood. Eighty-eight percent of all registered voters in the Wedge cast their ballots, which was one of the highest turnouts in the entire City, and higher than the 49% national turnout.
Thank you to Kari, Karlee, and all the volunteers who helped build a more civically engaged neighborhood. Comments are closed.
