Representatives from Hennepin County attended LHENA's March 17 board meeting to present updated pedestrian safety improvements for Lyndale Avenue South (at 25th Street and 27th Street). These two intersections have consistently been identified by community members as dangerous, especially for pedestrians.
Last year, Hennepin County (Lyndale Avenue is a county road) installed bollards and no-left-turn signs at the intersections as temporary safety measures. Realizing the relative ineffectiveness, the county now plans to station pedestrian boulevards at these two intersections. Additional street lights and a Rapid Flashing Beacon system are also part of the plans. Moreover, the county is beginning to explore the possibility of re-striping this stretch of Lyndale Avenue, converting it from four lanes to three lanes. The county's full presentation can viewed below, which includes a Q&A and comments from the LHENA board. Comments are closed.
