Would you be interested in helping to organize a community-led crime watch?
This summer has seen an uptick of crime, unrest, and housing / food insecurity. While there are many things outside our control and we are in unprecedented times, there are things we know about what makes safe communities, and vibrant communities: neighbors who take the time to know each other and who spend time outside gardening, walking dogs and children, eating on front porches or having picnics on the lawn, looking out for each other, and showing up to help when it is needed. The Community-Building Committee has 2 ideas to re-establish The Wedge as a neighborhood that is active, committed, and has many eyes, ears, and hands working together. 1) Front yard music concerts and supply drives Calling all professional, semi-professional, hobby, and student musicians who want to share your musical talents and host a supply drive for neighbors in need. Dust off your instruments, get the band together, and let’s get some dates on the calendar. 2) Neighborhood Safety Walks Let’s join together to reduce criminal activity and help us keep our neighborhood a safe and fantastic place to live, and maybe get some dog-walking done. Together we can organize, educate ourselves with trainings on implicit bias and de-escalation, and even come to know each other better as we create stronger bonds of community. To launch these ideas, we are looking for people who are interested in helping organize the efforts. Please come to our next Community-Building Committee meeting on Thursday, August 27 at 5pm (this month we meet at the Mueller Park while the weather is nice) or contact [email protected] and help build community here where you live. Community-Building Committee meeting Thursday, August 27 5:00-6:30PM Mueller Park Wear a mask and we will stay socially distanced. Agenda: –Public Safety/Anti Racism updates –Neighbors Helping Neighbors (including food share, housing security) –Lawn Concert Series and Supply Drives –Wedge Walkers idea –Open discussion/question time
