They pitched their idea to LHENA and received modest funding to help their efforts. After weeks of organizing, dozens of new voters are now registered and volunteers have helped educate hundreds of Wedge residents and business owners about the November 6th election through a lawn sign campaign, old-fashioned door knocking, and community gatherings. Thank you to Kari, Karlee, and all the volunteers who are helping build a more civically engaged neighborhood. Hi everyone,
We hope your fall has started off pleasant enough - keeping cozy. This past Saturday was our annual fall community clean up. You might’ve seen the signs around the neighborhood. Cleanups are a staple of volunteer activity here in the Wedge, and they are a pride of us here at LHENA. They are an easy, fun way to get some fresh air, meet a neighbor or two or spend a Saturday morning with a friend, all while helping to tidy up the community. In the spring, we collected over 200 lbs of trash and recyclables, including a car part or two! On Saturday, we met up around 10:00am at Mueller park for coffee and bagels. We then were led in a brief training by Katie, our board president. Some people brought their own gloves but there were plenty of extras on site, as well as grippers. And then we were off! We worked in teams (and brought our coffees along for the journey). We returned to the park at 12:00 to weigh the haul. And all in all, we collected over 83 pounds of trash, 22.5 of which were recyclable! Thank you to everyone who came out to help tidy up our community. :) P.S. We’ve got a leaf cleanup scheduled for November 17th, so mark your calendars for that. |
