LHENA News
Press releases, updates, and history from neighbors in and around the Wedge
Alicia has worked tirelessly to help create an inclusive, safer, and tighter-knit Wedge neighborhood. LHENA honored Alicia’s commitment to her community by presenting her with the Wedge Neighbor of the Year award at the April 17th Annual Neighborhood Meeting.
Alicia had a hand in numerous community projects this past year. She created multiple partnerships with Jefferson Elementary School, which led to funding environmental field trips for 7th and 8th grade students, and for educational programming and supplies; Alicia established a partnership with the Conflict Resolution Center, which now offers free housing mediation for Lowry Hill East renters and landlords; she has set up several meetings and workshops to give the community access to officers and leadership from the Minneapolis Police Department’s 5th precinct; Alicia chaired the neighborhood’s community life and safety committee, served on her neighborhood board, and helped write LHENA’s first ever strategic plan; she had the idea to bring the Sexual Assault Bystander Intervention program to the neighborhood, where expert staff from the Sexual Violence Center offered free trainings to the community for combating sexual violence and harassment. This project was so successful that Minneapolis Community Education picked up the program and will now offer it city-wide starting later this year; Alicia also helped start the Uptown Safe Bars initiative, which is a partnership with Outfront Minnesota, Canvas Health, and local bars to bring bystander training to bar staff.; she organized several family events in Mueller Park last summer; and restarted and coordinated the famous Wedge gnome scavenger hunt. Congratulations, Alicia, on this well deserved honor. THANK YOU to the 33 volunteers who pitched in to clean up our neighborhood on Saturday! We collected a total of 233 lbs: 176 lbs of Trash, 43 lbs of Recycling, and 4 lbs of Compost. ♻️🚮🌎
